Happy July 4th! Some Healthy Tips for You

Picture
May I wish you a Happy July 4th celebration of barbecues, fireworks and sunshine with friends and family!

Here are 3 simple tips for you to stay healthy for a happy July 4th Celebration.

Eat until 70% full

One of the secrets to longevity in Asian culture is to eat in moderate portions.  An old Chinese saying goes “Eat until you are 70% full if you want to live long.”  When you eat slowly and in moderation, you help your digestive system works well by avoiding any overload. It is good for your health.

Eat yin food

Summer is yang season associated with fire element. We all know that it is very tempting to go for only those barbecued meat in the celebration. But don’t forget about the fresh vegetables and fruits.  Meat, especially those cooked by barbecue, is usually hot in nature. It is better to have some yin food which is cool and wet in nature:  especially fresh fruits and vegetables, like watercress, lemon, orange, cucumber, lettuce, celery, tomato, water melon, etc.  Or simply try replacing some meat with fish and seafood which are usually yin in nature.

Drink plenty of water/beverages

Summer is all about yang and fire element, it is very common to get too much fire or heat in your body. So it is especially important to drink more water and liquids like tea, juice, etc to hydrate yourself. But try to refrain yourself from drinking an excessive amount of cold beverages. Too much cold food/beverages can harm your stomach and digestion. Instead, try to drink warm water or even hot tea, which, believe it or not, actually has been proven to cool you down faster than cold drinks.

Have a wonderful holiday!
